Beef Stir-Fry with Broccoli

  • 3/4 Lb rump steak , or sirloin/fillet steak; cut into very thin strips
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp cornflour , level
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese five-spice
  • 3 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce , or dark soy sauce
  • 1/2 Lb broccoli
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 tsp ginger , chopped
  • 1 clove garlics , finely chopped
  • 1 red bell peppers , thinly sliced
  • 1 scallions , sliced diagonally
  • 4 Tbsp sherry , optional
  • 2 Tbsp water
Place steak in a bowl with cornflour, Chinese five-spice, and soy sauce. Mix well and marinate for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, thinly slice broccoli stalks and separate the florets. Heat oil in a wok or large frying pan. Add marinated steak, ginger, and garlic and stir fry for 3 or 4 minutes. Add the pepper, broccoli, and the salad onions and stir fry for 2 minutes. Add the sherry (optional) and water. Cover and steam for 1 minute. Transfer to a warmed serving dish and serve with rice.
